Helena’s House Inc. provides 24/7 community residential services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with a strong focus on health, safety, daily living skills, and community inclusion.

What we provide in every Helena’s House home.

Our services are designed to support the whole person—health, daily living, social life, and long-term stability—in small, licensed community homes throughout Prince George’s County.

Residential

24/7 Residential Habilitation

Supervision, personal care, meals, housekeeping, and daily skill-building in licensed community homes with awake staff.

Health

Nursing & Health Support

RN oversight, medication administration, health monitoring, and coordination with physicians and specialists.

Community

Community Integration

Outings, day programs, and meaningful activities that help each person participate in community life at their own pace.

CORE SERVICES

Residential and health-related services.

Below is an overview of the types of supports typically provided in our homes. Specific services are based on each person’s plan of care and authorization.

Residential Habilitation & Daily Living Support

  • 24/7 supervision and support from trained direct support professionals
  • Assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene
  • Meal preparation, menu planning, and assistance with eating as needed
  • Housekeeping, laundry, and home maintenance tasks
  • Skill-building in daily routines, communication, and self-advocacy

Medication Administration & Health Monitoring

  • Medication administration by certified medication technicians
  • Documentation of medication administration and side effects
  • Vital sign monitoring as ordered by a physician
  • Support with following medical recommendations and appointments

Nutrition Support & Tube Feeding

  • GI tube feeding according to physician orders and care plans
  • Monitoring for tolerance and reporting concerns to nursing/physicians
  • Special diets, texture modifications, and therapeutic nutrition plans

Diabetic Care & Health Teaching

  • Blood glucose monitoring as ordered by a physician
  • Support with diet and activity recommendations for diabetes
  • Education and reinforcement to help the person understand their condition

Transportation

Transportation is provided to medical appointments, therapy sessions, day programs, and approved community activities as outlined in the person’s service plan.

Community Integration & Activities

Staff support residents in participating in outings such as shopping, faith-based services, recreational activities, and community events, based on interest and ability.

Respite & Transitional Stays

When available, short-term respite or transitional stays may be offered to support families and guardians, or to assist with transitions between settings.

ACCESSING SERVICES

Funding, eligibility, and referrals.

Helena’s House Inc. serves adults who qualify for community residential services in Maryland. We work closely with state agencies, coordinators of community services, and healthcare providers throughout the referral and admission process.

Eligibility

  • Adults age 21 and older
  • Diagnosis of intellectual and/or developmental disability
  • Need for 24-hour supervision and support
  • Meets criteria for community residential services

Referrals

  • Coordinators of community services
  • State agencies and case managers
  • Hospital and facility discharge planners
  • Families and guardians in collaboration with providers

A TYPICAL DAY

What a day at Helena’s House might look like.

Every person’s schedule is individualized, but the rhythm of the home is steady, predictable, and supportive of health, independence, and connection.

Morning

  • Wake-up and personal care
  • Medication administration
  • Breakfast and morning routine
  • Preparation for day program, appointments, or activities

Daytime

  • Day program or in-home activities
  • Therapies and appointments as scheduled
  • Skill-building and recreational time
  • Support with meals and rest periods

Evening

  • Dinner and household routines
  • Relaxation, TV, music, or social time
  • Community outings when appropriate
  • Evening medications and wind-down

Overnight

  • Overnight staff on duty
  • Safety checks and support as needed
  • Monitoring for health or behavioral concerns
  • Preparation for the next day
