ADMISSIONS
Moving into a residential program is a big decision. Our admissions process is designed to be thoughtful, transparent, and collaborative with families, guardians, and professionals.
WHO WE SERVE
Helena’s House Inc. provides 24/7 community residential services for adults who need ongoing support in a structured home environment. We partner closely with families, guardians, coordinators of community services, and medical providers.
Every person and family situation is unique. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. We are happy to talk through needs, services, and next steps with you and your team.
ADMISSIONS PROCESS
The timeline can vary based on funding, documentation, clinical needs, and home availability. In general, families and professionals can expect the following steps.
A family member, guardian, coordinator, or discharge planner contacts Helena’s House to share basic information about the person and current needs.
We request key documents (diagnostic records, plans of care, recent assessments) to understand medical, behavioral, and support needs.
Our team reviews the documentation, may ask clarifying questions, and determines whether we are clinically and programmatically able to meet the person’s needs.
If there is a potential match and an opening, we coordinate visits, discuss home options, and work with the team to plan a safe, person-centered transition.
DOCUMENTATION
Exact requirements vary by funding source and referral pathway, but the following documents are commonly requested to complete an admission review.
Reviewing detailed clinical and behavioral information helps us determine whether we can safely and appropriately support a person in one of our homes. It also allows us to prepare staff, equipment, and training in advance of admission.
If you are unsure how to obtain certain records, our team can suggest who to contact (physicians, hospitals, agencies, etc.) and what to request.
FUNDING & REFERRALS
Helena’s House Inc. accepts referrals from state agencies, coordinators of community services, hospitals, and other providers. Funding is typically arranged through Maryland’s developmental disabilities system and related programs.
Please contact us directly to discuss current openings, clinical fit, and next steps. We can provide a list of documents to submit securely for review and help coordinate timelines with your team.
QUESTIONS
Timeframes vary. Some admissions move quickly when funding, documentation, and an appropriate opening are already in place. Others take longer if approvals, records, or additional planning are needed. We will be transparent about timelines as we go.
In most cases, yes. Once a potential match and opening are identified, we work with families, guardians, and coordinators to arrange a tour or visit if possible.
When available and authorized, short-term respite or transitional stays may be an option. Availability depends on current openings and the person’s needs.
Our team includes nursing leadership and trained staff. During the review process, we look carefully at medical needs (such as tube feeding, diabetic care, mobility, or seizure management) to confirm whether we can safely support the person.
